Underwater Lighting

Here is how this works in practice. We give underwater lighting systems and crews for shoots filming beneath the surface in Austria. Lighting underwater is a discipline in itself: water absorbs light fast and shifts its colour with depth, particles scatter beams into haze, and each fixture must be sealed, rated for the working depth and rigged safely.

Here is the short of it. Our teams supply waterproof LED and HMI underwater fixtures, the power and cabling to run them, and lighting technicians and divers who place and operate them alongside the underwater camera crew. We light freshwater shoots across Austria — alpine lakes, the Danube system and Vienna studio tanks — matching the lighting package to the water conditions and the look the production needs, from naturalistic daylight extension to fully designed underwater scenes.

Here is the breakdown. Austria's freshwater differs widely, and underwater lighting has to be planned for each location. The Salzkammergut lakes — the Hallstätter See, the Attersee, often cited among Europe's clearest — and the Styrian Grüner See give high visibility where lighting can reach and shape a scene cleanly. The Wörthersee and the Danube carry more silt and depth.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. This means controlling scatter and lifting shadow with care. Cold alpine and spring-fed water demands thermal protection for the lighting crew and careful running of battery-powered fixtures. Lake and reservoir filming needs site-level permits set up with local and Bundesland authorities. Vienna studio tanks at facilities such as the Rosenhügel Filmstudios give a controlled alternative.
