Here is how this works in practice. We place directors across the full range of Austrian production, from feature films and prestige television to commercials and branded content. Our network draws on the directing community trained at the Filmakademie Wien — the film academy of the mdw, where Michael Haneke himself taught directing — and on freelance directors based in Vienna, Salzburg and Graz. We brief directors on your screenplay, tone and schedule, arrange showreel reviews and creative meetings, and confirm openings against your shoot dates.

Here is the short of it. Because Austria's crew pool works fluently in English and German, directors integrate seamlessly with global and DACH-region teams. We handle the contracting under the Kollektivvertrag terms set by the Fachverband der Film- und Musikwirtschaft within the WKO. Set up the director with the line producer, DP and first AD so prep, blocking and shoot days run to plan across Vienna's Rosenhügel Filmstudios or on location.

Here is the breakdown. Austrian directors are heirs to a great cinematic lineage. Haneke won the Palme d'Or twice — for 'The White Ribbon' in 2009 and 'Amour' in 2012, the latter also taking the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar — while Stefan Ruzowitzky's 'The Counterfeiters' won that same Oscar in 2007 and Götz Spielmann's 'Revanche' earned a nomination.

Here is the layout. Jessica Hausner ('Little Joe', 'Club Zero'), Ulrich Seidl with his Paradise trilogy, and Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz ('Goodnight Mommy') extend that custom into the present. The country also produced the Hollywood giants Fred Zinnemann, a four-time Oscar winner, alongside Lang, Wilder, Preminger and Erich von Stroheim.

That heritage shapes a directing culture defined by precision, literary sensibility and an unflinching eye — recognised each year at the Viennale, the Diagonale in Graz and the Österreichischer Filmpreis.
