Format Conversion & Encoding

Here is how this works in practice. We deliver format conversion and encoding through Vienna's post-prod facilities, transforming finished shoots between codecs, containers, resolutions and frame rates to meet the needs of each distribution channel. Our team selects optimal encoding parameters for each target — balancing quality against bitrate — and converts between pro and consumer formats including ProRes, DNxHD, XDCAM, H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP9 and AV1, across MXF, MOV, MP4 and MKV containers.

Here is what we have to work with. We keep colour accuracy, audio sync and metadata integrity across, and give pro HDR-to-SDR tone mapping watched by colourists. We handle single-file conversions and large-scale batch processing of full libraries, running quality verification before delivery so each encoded file meets the specs its sites needs.

Here is the layout. Austria's encoding work serves a market with different delivery targets. As an EBU member market, broadcast files for ORF, ORF III and ORF-ON, ServusTV, Puls 4 and ATV are encoded to EBU tech and EBU R128 loudness specs. Theatrical deliverables are conformed to DCI cinema standards.

Here is the short of it. Streaming-sites output for Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ is encoded to each sites's exact needs. German and English versioning is standard for the German-language audience, with many audio and subtitle tracks carried through the encode. Vienna's facilities process a steady flow of ORF drama, high-volume natural-history and factual libraries from Red Bull Media House and Terra Mater Studios, and global co-productions backed by the Österreichisches Filminstitut.

The Microsoft Azure 'Austria East' region, opened in Vienna in 2024, supports cloud-based encoding with domestic data residency, pairing scalable transcoding with trusted, specs-accurate delivery.
